"DISC" Research Project of Dr Claire Paris

www.rsmas.miami.edu/personal/cparis/ownfor/index.html

An acrylic frame and time-lapse camera system was developed for Dr Claire Paris of the University of Miami, RSMAS, to observe and quantify orientation behavior in coral reef fish larvae within the pelagic environment where there is no apparent frame of reference. The device is composed of drifter-like structure equipped with environmental sensors and a semi-enclosed circular chamber in which a larva is placed and filmed while the autonomous apparatus is deployed at sea.

Plastic Enclosures for Sonar System

Bellamare was contacted to develop light weight watertight enclosures (50m depth rating) to minimize the overall weight of a new modular sonar system.

Oceanographic Net

Bellamare designed a hip-mounted frame according to specific requirements. This device is a novel net system used in the study of fish larvae.

Video Recording Deck

This unit is an autonomous underwater digital recording system comprised of a DVR, an event scheduler and 2 battery packs enclosed inside an underwater housing rated for 60ft depth. A 600 line resolution, manually focusable, B/W camera and an infrared light completed the system allowing the user to record underwater scenes in total darkness.
